Community Partnership Schools

What Are Community Partnership Schools?

The University of Central Florida, Orange County (FL) Public Schools, and the Children’s Home Society of Florida created The Community Partnership Schools™ (CPS) model based on work done by the Children's Aid Society. The model is based on a partnership between a school district, a university or college, one or more community-based nonprofits, and one or more healthcare providers. The initial model at Evans High School in Orlando was highly successful, leading to expansion in other school districts. This comprehensive model of a community school leverages the social and institutional capital of the partners, making it possible for the school to offer resources and services that address the needs identified by the community.

YFA and its partners, the Pasco County School District, Premier Community HealthCare Group, Inc., the University of South Florida, The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County, YMCA of the Suncoast, Metropolitan Ministries, and BayCare, identified Gulfside Elementary as its focus for the first Pasco County CPS.

What Are the Goals of Community Partnership Schools?

The goal of the partnership is to provide holistic support to students and families and build up the community as a whole. YFA focuses on the immediate and long-term needs of students and families of the Gulfside Elementary School community. The program’s goals are to:

  1. Increase academic achievement

  2. Bridge the gap between school and home

  3. Increase student attendance

  4. Increase family engagement

  5. Provide a safe, positive environment for students and families
